I use Kara-Tur, Maztica, And Zakhara. It's very helpful to have
the various cultures available when I have a player who wishes to Wu Jen,
for example. Of course, the Horde novel trilogy also makes more sense
with Kara-Tur!! Very few in the west are aware of the specifics of Shou
Lung, but many are aware of them as the "Spice lands" or the terminus of
the "silk road". Adventurers, some sages, and highly educated nobles are
more knowledgable. Since I still use the old Spelljammer stuff, travel
between the continents is not unknown. Cultural factors within Wa and Shou
Lung to to inhibit contact. In the south, Halruaa, Luiren, and the
other southern kingdoms maintain a fairly active trade with Zakhara.
I have decided that since the Time of Troubles Spelljamming
technology has begun to interest many of Western Faerun's more prospereous
powers. Waterdeep, for example, has outfitted an undisclosed number of
her raker warships with minor helms. These vessels carry their standard
crew numbers, air is not a concern for their atmospheric trips. The
Zhentarim have also mastered spelljamming, their numbers are unknown, but
in the wake of Zhentil keep's destruction they have begun to appear,
usually to show the rival Moonsea cities that the Keep is still a city to
be reckoned with. Other nation's have also begun dabbaling, but in almost
all cases, the nations and city-states of Faerun use spelljamming for
terrestrial gain rather than exploration or interplanatary colonization.
At least, so far.
The greatest limitation on spelljamming is it's incredible cost. Helm's
run for at least five times the prices listed. Added to ship construction
costs and fleets are kept small indeed.
Anyway's, that's how I handle the discontinued items gambit. Anyone have
any comments on the spelljammer conection?

Victory from the Senate House" (392 AD)
