Subject: Re: Help on fly spell.
I was looking at the description for the 3rd level Mage spell Fly
the other day (as is my want) and afew questions came to mind.

 - Area of Effect: Creature touched. Does this mean there is no
size limit; flying elephants, whales, dinosaurs, etc. tarrasque
heaven forbid.

 - No mention of the weight that can be carried by the flying
creature. Their own weight again or their max encumbrance perhaps,
but this could be alot if a large creature is doing the flying.

 - Could an animated object fly? Say a Priest animates a boat then
his pal the Mage casts fly on the boat could it fly? (Persuading it
to fly is another problem again).

The Spelljammer rules mention that Elven Flitters with
'conventional' helms have a SR of 2 (which contradicts an earlier
rule which says that a conventional helm can only have a SR of 1 but
this is fixed up by the rule that states that Elves can do anything
cause their wonderful). But what is this helm? I was thinkin' that
perhaps, since the flitter is a living plant a fly spell could be
used. The elf piloting the Flitter could use some sort of empathy
to control the Flitter's movement. This wood (bad pun:) mean that
only someone with some sort of empathy for trees such as Elves and
Druids could use the Flitter. (Threats might work though - "If you
do start flying right now, I will take a large axe to your wings and
give you a trimmin' you wont forget!")

If anyone can point out something I've missed or have any
suggestions please let me know.

 - GregS.
