   On the mind flayer birth rate thing, I'd always assumed, what with the
young being called 'tadpoles' and all, that the MF would be giving birth
to large numbers of tadpoles at one birth.  If the birth resulted in 50 odd
tadpoles, they could afford to loose most of them, without any risk to
their population growth.  ie MF's use the same method of child raising as
frogs, give birth to hundreds of tadpoles (via eggs for frogs), and then
leave them to fend for themselves, and rely on shear numbers to ensure some
survive.
