Actually, one of the things on my "Things to do" list is a Reigar trying to
build the perfect planet (and deciding the PCs get to be some of the lucky
inhabitants), but I'd put a Ringworld beyond even them.
(Although the idea of gnomes *trying* to build a ringworld just occurred to me,
with some amusement. "Wejustneedsomeonetotestourscaleprototype!")
(I suppose I should point out that ring-shaped worlds are not unprecedented in
historic literature. A Greek named Anamaxader (hope I spelled that right)
postulated the Sun was a hollow torus centered on the Earth, filled with fire,
and the Sun we see is just a hole in the inside of the torus. I put a system
like that in my campaign's Hellene Cluster. After that, Ringworld is nothing.)
Anyway, that's what we've got the Ancients/Zookeepers for, right? How many
AD&D campaigns in the world *don't* have some way-too-powerful ancient race in
its history?
